The bus fare increases are affecting my family. It may be justifiable though. I ran a quick calculation.
Part of my feelings of isolation relate to being so "far" from Seattle. I figured I would run the numbers and see what it costs me to drive in and back.
At $4.20/gallon and 30 miles per gallon, it costs me $2.80 to go get Kayleigh from Ben's house. Bus fare is $1.75 for Ben and soon to be $0.75 for Kayleigh. Comparable exactly, with the tie breaker being time spent and capacity to carry goods. Nonetheless, I found $2.80 surprisingly high. I guess I was expecting it to be even cheaper. That is round trip, by the way. So I guess the bus fare doesn't seem like *that* much. I just think it ought to be basically free since it either serves poor populations or gets cars off the road.
