In lieu of Yan's successive passes in his IRATA assessment and Class 2 TP, the twins ( Leon and Yan) and I headed down to Seletar Airbase to check out Sunset Grill & Bar, primarily for their famed buffalo wings on Wednesday night.
Despite seeming like a very ulu place( as shown on a map), we didn't have much difficulty navigating our way around. I took Leon's bike, having met him earlier at Sembawang, while Yan headed down straight ( since he stayed a mere 5 mins ride away!). Leon brought along his spare helmet and riding jacket for me,and as a safety precaution, made me wear that riding jacket. It was very thoughtful of him though.
Caught a few glimpse of the setting sun, over the hangar while riding in. Quite a pretty sight. Too bad we didn't make it in time to view the sunset in its full glory( heh I'm a sucker for sunsets ). The place exuded an old school charm, felt very rustic, with lights overhanging, being strung from trees to trees, and simple tables and chairs.
.
Now, what's so special about their wings?
They are famed for their "hot levels", ranging from 1 to 30.
Well, according to reviews, most people don't venture beyond level 5, so you can imagine how spicy their wings are. Being very adventurous, we went for level 8.
Along with half a dozen wings, we ordered 2 pork chops, 1 bbq pork ribs, and a mini chicken burger set.
The wings truely lived up to its name. They were haaaawwwwt. The first taste is enough to warn you of its potency.
But it wasn't unpalatable. In fact, it just grows on you,and you just get used to it( though I did perspire a hell lot while eating these wings)
Well, not so for the twins. Leon managed 0.5 wing, Yan managed 1.2 wings, I chomped my way through 3 of them, haha.
Both the boys were perspiring profusely and had swollen lips. they downed copious amount of ice-water as well( a bucket of ice was kindly provided for us, haha).
The other food items were really good though.
The pork chops were well marinated, and succulent, while my pork ribs are soft and tender and very tasty as well! Oh and the mini burgers! Though they didn't look that appetising, they packed a punch. Full of flavour, every mouth a delight! We were there for about 2 hours odd before we made our move. One thing to note though, their prices are pretty steep. Total damage for the night was around $105. Of which, Yan partially half-treated us:)
It was indeed a very memorable dining experience. It left us with stomachs that felt hot through the night ( now can you imagine how potent that is?!) , and personally, my stomach just felt weird till the next morning.
Nevertheless, I am looking forward to check out Buckaroo. Apparently another bar & grill famous for its wings!
