In Memorium

It was the year 2006; I was nearing my junior year of college. Shortly after I left for my five week study abroad in Argentina, my sister packed up her belongings for a one year teaching stint in Mexico. Without a roommate for the impending school year, I could neither afford the cost of a dorm room nor an apartment. I had all but resigned myself to a daily 100 mile round trip commute from my parents' house to school.

Then the Bakers welcomed me into their home. At that point, I had been working for Susan for over two years. Due to her tireless care and concern for my sister and me, we had begun to call her the Akron Chapter of our Mom. The Bakers not only sheltered and fed me but they also treated me like a member of their family. I'm not sure that I was ever able to fully convey to them how much I appreciated their kindness and, calling it what it truly is, their love for me.

Over the next two days, I will be forced to say good bye to my Akron Dad. I couldn't be more angry at a world which so easily lets such an amazing human go. He was more of a father to me in 8 months than some fathers are in an entire lifetime.

Rest in peace, "Dad."

With Eternal Love and Gratitude,
Lindsay
