Her arms wrapped around him, clutching, grabbing, needing his touch. Her shoulders heaved with the sobs that she couldn't keep in anymore, her emotions tumbling through the wall he had just torn down. She felt the looks, the glances of the others in the shop and didn't care. The tears slid down her cheeks and soaked his shirt and she just dug her head deeper into his chest. He pulled away a bit, his arms still around her.
"Baby, it's ok. Walk away," he said. She looked up reluctantly, knowing his eyes would push her over the edge. His eyes swam with the tears that she knew he didn't want to let go and leaned down to kiss her, so gently. She turned and walked away from him, her shoulders shaking, knowing that she just couldn't look back. She didn't see the others in the terminal, just a blur as she hurried, walking on. Wiping her tears away, more sprang to take their place each time. They just wouldn't stop. A figure stepped forward, as if to console her, but hesitated and left her to her thoughts instead.
Grateful, she didn't stop and neither did the tears. She knew she needed this, the release of so much pent up for so long. She wished she could be angry and will the feeling to stop, hoping that the tearing at her chest would stop, but knowing the raw emotion was necessary.
Not able to take it anymore, she stopped at a ticket desk and looked through the blur to the agent behind the counter.
"Do you have any tissues?" she said, her voice breaking. Eyes wide, he answered.
"Of course, I'll be right back" he said as he hurried through the door behind the counter. She stood, feeling empty, willing herself to think of nothing. The agent rushed back through the door and handed her a stack of coarse paper towels.
"Are you ok?" he asked as he handed them to her.
"Ya," she managed, "I'll be fine."
"Are you sure?" he pressed.
"Yes. Just a really hard goodbye," she said, her voice breaking again. He gave a knowing nod, and a tender smile and she walked away, Home.
