The green in his suit vest stands out brilliantly against his pale, pale skin and that shock of white hair. Kate's eyes are naturally drawn to the man, unaware of the fact that they once met before.
"May I sit?" asks the petite, young woman in the turquoise dress.
His look regarding the salmonless salmon-cream-cheese rolls on his plate is completely guiltless. He certainly recognizes her, the nice lady with all the scritches.
"Certainly, Miss," he says, smiling as he moves to pull a chair out for her.
He eyes his own tux, complete with vest and cravat, grinning. "A gift from a friend with much better taste in finery than myself, I must admit."
"And I am definitely enjoying myself," he chuckles. "A couple of the Cullens are friends of mine, so I decided not to curb my curiosity to see what all the talk was about."
There is, as there were unwritten warnings there might, then a sound like a balloon popping from above. And suddenly, about as suddenly as anyone anywhere could look up, there is a shower of rainbow glitter falling.
(Magically it somehow gets in people's hair and fur and not their food.)
"I am," she nods. "I have a few friends among the family as well. And, in fact, my attire is also a gift from one of them. They're very generous--"
Her words fall short at the sound of something bursting. She jumps a little, hand hitting her hip (where, of course, she won't find her sixshooter), and looks up in time to see a rain of glitter floating down.
Kate hunkered herself down as the glitter fell, coating her hair, bare shoulders, and dress. Once the shower is over, she straightens herself back out, chancing a glance at the ceiling.
Nikola will wonder what the suit had ever done to deserve it. Yrael brushes off the excess, still seeing it fall in little showers when he moves his head.
"It hit us pretty squarely. No hope of getting it all out right now, so we might as well not worry."
He'd normally just shift forms for a moment to burn off all the glitter, but he doesn't want to ruin his fine clothes, nor is there a handy place in which to remove them at the moment.
"You were saying that... Alice, I'm guessing, chose your dress? It's very lovely on you."
"Poor fella, it really stands out on you, don't it?" she winces.
She frowns a little at the thought of sparkling all night, but she'll be more relaxed once she realizes they won't be the only ones, neither will Alice be upset about the dress.
"Yes, I think perhaps it's easy t'see Alice in this dress. I couldn't have been more surprised at the gesture," she smiles. "Thank you kindly."
The color does pick up the light blue hue of her eyes. Though, leaving her arms bare, it does nothing to hide the nasty scar on her right arm.
"One is never short of generous friends, in Milliways," he smiles.
Kate is very generous with scritches, for example. Scars do not bother Yrael in the least, as he wears his own so obviously that no one truly notices they are scars.
"My friend Nikola took me to Rio de Janeiro to buy this suit and others, when he found I had a woeful lack of fine clothes, as he put it." The emphasis is truly amused in tone.

She settles in the chair.
"I'm Miss Kate Barlow."
She extends her hand; it's a more formal greeting than she normally gives, but it is a more formal occasion, after all.

No Mister, nor family name.

She nods politely.
"You look rather smart tonight, Mr. Yrael. Are you enjoyin' the party?"

His hair and skin are practically iridescent.
"Phh," he sputters lightly, trying to get rid of the little bit of glitter that had gotten on his lips. "What was that?"
Reply
"I ain't quite sure."
But it has Alice written all over it.
Now, as she shifts in her seat, she sparkles.

"I reckon that's true. Your friend Nikola comes 'round these parts, then?"
