Tribal Fest Recap...and Performing!
Just got home from Tribal Fest 10 in Santa Rosa, CA. Oh man- WHAT A BLAST!!!!
I had sooooo much fun!
Rach and I went from Tues-Sun for dancing, workshops, SHOPPING and performing. The latter was extremely nerve racking- but ended up going well.
The crowd was so lovely- warm and supportive. I got so many hugs and kisses from people I had JUST met.....or idolized from afar for a while (BellaDonna!). It was truly a wonderful week.
I took workshops w/ Zoe Jakes (loooooooove her. OMG she is so great! Funny, down to earth and super knowledgeable), Mardi Love (so soft spoken and sweet!) and Kami Liddle (fabulous teacher!). I learned so much! I listen to music differently now thanks to Zoe - she helped calm my dance ADD of "omg I have to dance to every little sound I hear!". Kami taught me how to properly utilize my arms and Mardi gave some amazing new combos to work on. :0)
I went a little shopping crazy..... 3 skirts (yes I said SKIRTS! Yogirts actually, from Geisha Moth. LOVE HER!), 2 hip sashes, earrings, the new Rachel Brice DVD set (excited to try this!) and some cute capris.
I performed!!! I was really proud of myself for not chickening out. Someone from Spain asked if they could trade their dance slot for a slot on Friday. I had a Friday slot- so I said I didn't mind. Turns out they had a ROCKSTAR spot. No lie. I was after BellaDonna and before Mavi - 2 of my belly idols! I almost died But, I held my own!
It was not my best piece...but it was certainly not my worst either. I got a DVD and took it home for analysis. I can see 2 things that drive me nuts- my "oh no what next?" face and my shimmies being "small". I always thought you could see how big they are - but no!
Getting to the airport was INSANE....we almost missed our flight and the day felt very "Mission Impossible". As a result...we are doing a James Bond/ Dr. No duet this November. LOL! I can't wait.
The week opened me up to trying new things...and to wanting to perform more. So, my new goal is 10! This weekend will be performances #5 and 6! Woah nelly!!! :D
So, I've been working on those pieces (Belly Psychedeli - dancing to "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and The Hip Rack - I was going to hoop...but my hooping is "meh" - so I'm just dancing).
Next up I have The Shimmy Collective (performance TBD), Hot Hips Cool Chicks (tribal based zilling piece) and Improper Spectacle II (video game fusion....hello Pac Man and Tetris sounds! Haha).
