all you ever wanna talk about is yourself and your comic books and your album and your tour

EDIT: I somehow neglected to mention that this was Rachael (our new drummer)'s first gig with us and that she was ace and this was the most important thing about it.
our set last night:

...And they're off
to boldly go
I wanna be the second coolest person in town after you
Cravats and spats and feather boas
the rowing song
stop pestering me (premiere)
a letter
now that music is free
the seven inches get disorientated (new accelerating version)

I taped our set for the first time (thanks
sparklejess) and so I can talk with a clearer idea of what we actually sounded like. This was probably a medium-quality seven inches show. We were short of Emil, (as he was off at Eurodisney of all places), but I don't think we sounded like we were a member short, thanks to our judicious choice of material. My vocals were pretty rough, but got better as the set went on. "Stop Pestering Me" (my current favourite seven inches song, mostly sung by Emily) was great, I'm so glad we finally got to play it. My trousers were falling down and I forgot to do and say a lot of things I had planned, and our stagecraft was pretty tame to begin with compared to how I would like to be. I would like our shows to be far more visually dazzling, original and surprising. Must try harder.

As usual, sophie's pigeons were beautiful, Pifco were thrillin', (my tape was left running, so I recorded most of their set too)and Schwervon were ace. A pity we were running late the whole night and we all had to rush and edit our sets. four-band gigs are always tricky, especially when the opening band arrives an hour late. it was also annoying that  of the people who paid to get in, few seemed to be in the room watching the bands at any one time, and a lot of good stuff got missed. I only really started to relax in the last few songs of Schwervon!'s set. Same as last year, nan and Mat came back to our house to stay, and we stayed up talking a few hours with Melanie. It was lots of fun and I felt very lucky. Schwervon! are SO nice. They're wonderful people, and ideal guests. After i went to work this morning, Nan of Schwervon made a delicious fried breakfast with Chris. I know this because when I got back home the leftovers were waiting for me in the fridge. And there was a pretty thank-you note complete with lovely drawing.

Off to "Let's be friends" at the common place now, a clubnight whose name has got the Beach Boys' glorious "Friends" humming through my head. Maybe I'll take the album along and make them play it.

Two days till Julie Doiron!!!
