Berries!

The beginning of September's coming up which means I should be seeing the end of Beloved's first harvest from the garden. I could ask him if there's a lot more summer fruit to pick, but I live in fear of him saying "yes."

Don't get me wrong, i mean he has managed to stick to this obsession for years now - that's almost unprecedented with him! ( Read more... )

Aren't currents used for wine? I think I have heard of "red currant wine" on TV before so it must be true.

If it weren't for the fact that I'm on the wrong side of the pond, I'd say to send some of that jam to me... I'm well aware that it's half sugar, but I love it anyways.

Take gin or vodka. Soak fruit in alcohol. Drink alcohol.

ALCOHOL! I may be a blasphemer for not having thought of this sooner

I would love some of the jam, if I weren't in North America and shipping thus cost half the earth, at least. Especially the cherries and currants. I love currant jam, especially in peanut butter sandwiches. Yum.

But gooseberries? Yikes. My grandfather loved them, but I always heard of them being used in pies. I have yet to gather up enough courage to MAKE one. They look like skinned grapes, and unfortunately I don't want to bite into one after making that connection.

Peanut butter and jam disturbs me muchly, yes yes it does

I use them in pies with a lot of sweet things they're nice. But not nice enough to eat 7 or 8 of them

I'll confess to still eating peanut butter and jam sandwiches with chocolate milk. Hee! (Even though I suspect I may be developing a peanut allergy. Either that or a wheat allergy.)

Gooseberry jam, nod. It's sort of a bitter-marmalade type situation - you either love the stuff, or you think it's freakish.

Second the currant jam and peanut-butter!

Freeze it and use it to make fruit smoothies - take 200gms of assorted fruits, add 1/2 pint of milk, blend, drink.

Although defrost the fruit first... :)
