Osborne's latest unemployment plans

Osborne, being the nasty little Tory he is, has a new plan to help fight unemployment in this country - demonising the long term unemployed!

Did I say “new plan”? Because that kind of sounds like the Tory’s old plan. In fact, it sounds like the Tory’s only plan.

And that “volunteer” position is deceptive - because in this era of cuts, we’re seeing both charities being forced to step in to fill in care that should be provided by services. It’s a shifting of workforce from paid labour to unpaid volunteers. The same applies to that “community service”, for every unemployed person you force into this scheme, that’s a council worker who is not needed.

YES. I have spent the last few days so angry. I know how my local council face major cuts this year, and the ones next year are on an even bigger scale and mean that already pared down services will have to close.

And then today at their conference David Cameron had the absolute bloody nerve to say that they were the party of cutting taxes. We should be paying taxes! We can't afford to keep libraries open and repair schools and support elderly people and keep after hours clubs open so parents can work. Museums are suffering (let's not even get into the curriculum changes which will reduce visitor numbers and revenue still further), arts and community venues are closing or being sold into private hands. Mostly though I am so angry that elderly people, disabled people, the people our society should be protecting and supporting, are suffering so 'we' can have tax cuts. Oh yes, we are all in this together.

Charities stepping in to perform essential services gets on my very last nerve. Volunteering will never be as efficient, as appropriate or as necessary as services! Everything is being sliced to the bone so taxes can be cut for the wealthiest

I like taxes. With taxes I buy civilisation
