I’m far from a doctor or any kind of health expert, but there’s something I think we can all do with having confirmed now - meningitis is not an STD. This seems to be confusing some people.

Yes, several gay men have caught meningitis in New York. That doesn’t make it an STD. Bacteria that cause Meningitis can be spread through coughing, sneezing ( Read more... )

Well that's the straight cis people's who thing then, isn't it? Gay people only gather for sex. Marriage is about love. We can't fall in love. So how can we be married. Which, personally, I think we should do away with marriage completely. It's archaic and a crutch. It's saying: "You can't have him/her because he/she is mine only." I don't need some piece of paper to tell me how committed I am to someone. I don't need anyone's blessing. It also says, "I have someone who loves me and will take care of me and won't leave me." (aka the crutch) Which we all know to be false. It's the Disney fairy tale ending. So of course they're going to link sexually active gay men to the Meningitis outbreak. Like more straight people aren't dying because of it. No, let's not focus on straight people dying. Let's put the fear of Our Almighty God into those gays so they stop having sex and stop being gay ( ... )

But ... but it's not an STD? It's not passed via sex ... it's like a cold or flu.

How do people come up with this absolutely idiocy?

/facepalm

So, what, the fact that meningitis is often contracted by INFANTS means we should be thinking horrible horrible things about their parents? Really?!? Because that's the next logical step from where all that is going, except that it's not logical and all about fear and hate mongering ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH ARGH.

F'in ridiculous. I'm going to go back and watch the New Zealand politicians singing "Pokarekare Ana" and that awesome "Big Gay Rainbow" speech. >:(
