You know I understand your frustration and in fact I started to write a similiar critique about the way that Alan Ball portrayed women in the series until I started to go through the men and realized that the men were just as dysfunctional as the women. I think that the hets are just as screwed up as the GLT on the series. Lets start with Bill who walks around whining about how horrible it is to be a vamp, lying to theoretically the only woman he loves in fact setting her up to be badly beaten so that he can get her to take his blood hum - yeah really great guy. Then there is Eric who is a homicidal maniac vamp who may or may not really truly like Sookie, does love his daughter, oops forgot he's bi. There's Arlene who is nutty as squirrel poop. Jason who has a one diget IQ. Crystal who is "Big Mama Kittie" madam rapist. And the list goes on. My point is that everyone is so messed up on the show that if the GLBT were not messed up they probably wouldn't be allowed to live in Bon Temps LOL

The problem is that the GBL people on the show fail in ways that fit stereotypes and tropes. it's one thing to have an unhappy, dysfunctional lifve and another to reflect the tropes, prejduices and stereotypes out there

But don't you think that the show thrives on sterotypes - I mean you have the stupid, bigoted southern redhead (Arlene), the nice good ole guy Sam, the dumb stud Jason, Bill the tragic tormented vamp who is pushed into doing things that he doesn't want to do (ala Louis on Interview with a Vamp). I guess I am less insulted with Laffy's stereotype than Arlene who is just a stupid southern bigot Same with the straight white older sheriff (can't remember his name) and Portia the straight baracuda bigotted lawyer. The show is a mess of stereotypes.

At least this show has a number of gay and lesbian charactors who are there and visable - they may be dyfunctional but they are as gloriously dyfunctional as all of the rest. LOL
