*hugs* I'm just the same way... the thought of having workmen in the flat (or anyone, really) sends my anxiety through the roof. Gonna have to eventually though - the boiler needs fixing. :/

At least it's over and done with now.

(is it bad that a big reason I'm looking forward to moving in with Will is that I won't have to deal with people coming round to fix aforementioned boiler if I'm no longer living with it?)

I think i could have managed if it were one room or just downstairs - but the whole house. Every room - no couldn't take it

You have my sympathy. Our kitchen floor collapsed two years ago and we live around it as I can't deal with the idea of having workmen tromping around in the house. Even the idea of it makes me feel sick. So kudos to you for going ahead at all. Give it a week or so and with any luck the sense of violation will ease a bit.

Aye it took time. I was as much shocked by the strength of my reaction as by the reaction itself

I find this very, very familiar. http://suryaofvulcan.livejournal.com/96588.html

I also think it's perfectly normal and understandable.

I find it helps to take a day off work afterwards to just be by myself, reclaim my space and restore the balance. I hope you can do the same soon.

I think discomfort would be normal - bnut the sheer extremity of my reaction probably much less so.

I needed time just to sit in pure silence

Is there anything that works well for you to reclaim space? It sounds like a crazy primitive animal thing, but I use smell for that. I take smudging sage to a place when I move into it, anytime there's drama or invasiveness, and when I leave. It helps communicate to the beast-brain at the back of the head that this is mine and this is mine and this and oh especially that and this other thing.

I also like using noise like a rattle or drumming stuff, but I can understand why that is absolutely the last thing you might need right now--more disruptive noisy stuff.

Silence helps me. What helped me pull it back together was utter quiet, even turning off most electrical things so i don't hear the buzz, closing the new very soundproof windows and just having... SILENCE. It's extremely restful to me, a shield

Oh god, the positive feedback loop of Doom... me and my partner have a very gross version of that one. Hope you manage to break out of it soon!
