Progress and Setbacks

When I decided on my resolution of losing 5 pounds per month, and downloaded MyFitnessPal, I began by weighing myself on New Year's Day. I was 227.5 pounds. I weighed myself today, just after I woke up. 223. Four pounds the first week! Rock! And before people get worried, a big drop is really common in the first week of dieting. I expect that this week I'll lose 1 pound, maybe 2, but nothing so drastic as 4.5 pounds. But I'm feeling really good, and am excited to keep going. Of course, I've updated my weight in the app, and as a reward my caloric intake has been cut by 20 calories. CURSES! Ah well. Just have to make them count. :)

In other news, I have successfully cooked fish! I've never cooked fish before, and was nervous about doing so, but I rocked it, if I may say so myself. I did blackened tilapia with steamed carrots. It was mad tasty! In fact, we're having the leftovers tonight. But not with steamed carrots. Palmer is grabbing a microwavable side, because I should not be on my feet today. And why is that?

Check out my fourth toe, and check out that vertical line under the joint. That's right, that's a fracture. Last night after dinner (sushi, om nom nom) Palmer went into the kitchen to pour us wine while I went into the living room to turn on my computer. As I was walking past the coffee table to the couch, my right foot slammed into the leg of the table. Hard. I hit it and immediately fell over (onto the couch, thank god) and basically sobbed for 5 minutes while the pain shot up my leg. I was able to wiggle all of my toes, but they hurt like hell. I put ice on my foot, and went to bed early.

When I woke up this morning my foot hurt worse. I couldn't walk on it properly, the fourth toe had swollen up, and it really hurt to move them. So Palmer and I went to the 24 hour clinic, and I got x-rays. As you can see, there is a small fracture. There isn't anything I can really do about it, other than Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. So I'm doing that, and I have a very stylish post-op shoe to wear when I'm walking. I've also switched shifts with a coworker, so I have off til Wednesday. Hopefully by then I'll be in better shape, and can work my shifts. All in my lovely shoe, as mentioned.

Unfortunately, this means that all that exercise I was planning on has to be put off. I mean, maybe the yoga will be ok, but definitely not the walking or biking or running. Boo! It also means that I'll have to drive to work, which means paying for parking. Again, boo. Blech. Not the way I'd hoped to start the new year.

I have no idea how to wrap up this entry so I'm just going to stop writing. There! That solves that!
