got Sufjan Stevens' Greetings from Michigan, the Great Lakes State and Flaming Lips' Zaireeka in the mail today. BOSS.
FYI, Zaireeka is a sonic experiment involving the four discs it comes with being played at exactly the same time. because of the impossibility of four people to push "play" at -precisely- the same moment, and because of the fact that cd players actually play at very slightly different speeds(!), the experience is always different. there is a disclaimer on the front of the cd case. it reads:
WARNING: This is a unique recording. These eight compositions are to be played using as many as four compact disc players, and have synchronized start times. This recording also contains frequences not normally heard on commercial recordings and on rare occasion has caused the listener to become disoriented.
I'm going to refrain from listening to it until I can be sure it's going to be an experience.
