This weekend was a pretty good time in Sevilla. Saturday we hung out around the Montequinto and just sorta took the day off. Then last night we all went downtown in Sevilla and had our own Botellon in the park in front of the Fine Arts museum (so classy, I know haha) and then we took our usual trip to La Calle Betis, partied at Fundicion for a bit, ate a burger from the burger stand, and then headed back home. At the burger stand, however, we met an english-speaking friend from Morocco who flipped out on the lady working there because she wasn't waiting on people in line and it was hilarious. Naturally Fritz was saying all this stuff about the kid with him and how he was bald and had sideburns, and I dunno if he spoke English or not, but it was hilarious because his friend def. turned around and started speaking English with us haha. We then managed to sprint down the street and stop the bus right as it pulled out, and got home around 4:30. Then I just hung out here and talked online and went to bed. Today consisted of me waking up at 11:30, watching South Park online all day, and just going for a walk. It was a quiet day, but I enjoyed it, and the walk was good to clear my head.
One important development must be noted in Spain. Many people would be surprised to see just how much American culture has saturated the Spanish landscape. Andalucia (the region I'm living in) is still very Spanish, maybe the most Spanish part of Spain. To make a long story short, Spain is 1 country, but there are 4 distinct regions in the country that all have their own culture and such (Pais Vasco is very strange. It's in the north and wants to be it's own country), but they all remain part of Spain. However, Andalucia is probably the most Spanish area, and would be most likely what you think of when you imagine Spain. However, even here, the US influence is everywhere. The most glaring example of this is the fact that, in all seriousness, I think it's only a matter of time until the Spanish government adopts "Umbrella" by Rihanna as the national anthem. The song is on tv all the time, it's on the radio, it's everywhere. It's seriously the biggest song in Spain. It's catchy and I like it, but seriously, they cannot get enough of it, and I feel like it's only a matter of time until it's sung along with before sporting events, and played over the loudspeaker at governmental gatherings.
Well that's all for now, but I will update this week before Friday. Friday I will be departing for ITALIA for 9 days. Until then, take it easy!
Later Days!
