Apples, Football and Movies

Well, the apples that I got on my recent trip to Lewistown weren't nearly as good as previous years! I got them towards the end of September, and usually that's when County Market gets its bumper crop of the really juicy ones. But I got a big bag of delicious gala apples from the Moline Hy Vee after play practice a week and a half ago. Those will tide me over for a good while.

I will admit, sometimes it takes all the way through to October for any grocery store, supermarket or orchard to get the inventory of the best pick of the season.

As far as football goes, Rockridge is currently 5-2 as of Week 7 of the regular season. I had the opportunity to see their win over Sherrard, their win over Riverdale, their Homecoming home win over Erie-Prophetstown, and their Week 6 away win over Orion. I missed their home win over Mercer County this past Friday, due to play practice, and I happened to miss their week 2 home loss to Princeton due to helping my niece with homework. I missed their Week 5 road loss to Sterling Newman due to the visitation for Bill Tubbs. At this point, they have a very good shot at making the playoffs. If they win their last two games of the year, they finish off 7 and 2 and cruise into the post-season. On the strength of Owen and Liam Steele, Tanner McKaeg, and a whole bunch of other people, we've had a lot of good offense on the field this year. Defense has been pretty solid as well, with some picks and even a pick 6 for touchdown!

Phil and I have discussed going to see the Iowa Hawkeyes play at Kinnick Stadium in November. Although this may run up against Rockridge High School's first round of the playoffs. Come to think of it, it could also run up against my mother in law coming back from California. So that remains to be seen.

Now, for movies.

Truth be told, there's nothing I'm moving heaven and earth to get out and see on opening night coming out this fall. Even into the holiday season, while there are movies that look interesting, it's not like 2023 with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, or 2022 with The Fabelmans and Black Panther Wakanda Forever, or even 2021 with West Side Story (though ultimately I bought that on blu-ray.)

Here is a list that I have come up with of films that I would definitely be willing to see on the big screen though!

Saturday Night
Mufasa The Lion King
The Outrun
A Complete Unknown
We Live in Time
Here
White Bird a Wonder Story
Gladiator 2
Wicked Part 1
Blitz
Night Bitch
Babygirl
The Wild Robot
