It's graduation weekend at Lewistown, which means it's getting close to summer. Only two more weeks of school, and I will all of the sudden need some idea of what I'm going to be doing with my usmmer. The fact that it's Mother's Day also means that we are at least three weekends into the Summer movie season! I have already been out to see The Avengers Infinity War. I won't share a whole review of the movie here, but I will say this much; it was wonderful to see the Avengers working together again, no secrets, no hidden agendas, no one at crossed purposes, just all of them trying to figure out a way to stop Thanos from wiping out half of the living species in the universe. A holocause disguised as housecleaning. We all of the sudden really cared about the dreams and goals of Captain America, Iron Man, Spiderman, Hulk, Thor, Starlord, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Groot, Black Widow, Scarlett Witch, and Black Panther. We care about the people the Avengers love. And even if this little speck of dust on a thumbnail of the universe that we call Earth is insignificant in the grand scheme, we don't want to see these hardworking superheroes, once upon a time working gladly for S.H.I.E.L.D., be disposed of like so many embers of dust while Thanos beams happily. We want to see a clear cut rebellion, and let us manage the univere's problems on our own terms.
In other words, my college roommate and I liked the movie for different reasons.
So, now that I have seen The Avengers Infinity War, here are ten other movies that I still have to look forward to in 2018:
1. Solo 2.) The Incredibles 2. 3.) The Meg. 4.) The Darkest Monster 5.) The Spy Who Dumped Me. 6.) Life of the Party. 7.) I Feel Pretty. 8.) Breaking In. 9.) The Seagull. 10.) Adrift. I will also see You Were Never Really Here. Also will see Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, Mission Impossible Fallout, Overboard, Mamma Mia Here We Go Again, Breaking In, Tully, and if I can finish the first one on DVD, Deadpool 2. Lots of these will never grace the Quad Cities theatres. Do need to reach back and watch Red Sparrow at some point. I wish that there were a specialty screening on the big screen. I will probably have to get to Mother! as well.
We have tentatively set a date for seeing a Chicago Cubs game. August 3rd. Cubs vs. Padres. I need to wait to see what the tickets going rate are. But it's doable, likely.
I will be going to Des Moines, Iowa, on June 21st-24th for Mason's state baseball tournament. Just found out I will be going out in my dad's place, so that he can make it to a memorial service for his cousin, Joseph.
I will be going out to Geneseo, Illinois, a whole lot. I have been cast as Police Detective Constable Goddard in Busybody! It's their July show. This is very exciting for me, as it is my 25th anniversary of getting involved in Community Theatre. It also features Mallory, my friend from Antigone, Nathan Johnson, who filled in for Dana Moss-Peterson in Inherit the Wind, Jim Strauss from Inherit the Wind and It's a Wonderful Life, Renaud Heyman from Laughing Stock, Suzeanne Rakestraw from Laughing Stock, one of the great actresses from The Importance of Being Earnest and Murder on the Rerun, and some other performers that I am forgetting.
I have not given up on seeing Oklahoma yet. I have the option of going on the last day, June 10th- everything's on the table. But if Sara can't make it, I may go with Phil.
Books I plan to read include Hard Choices by Hillary Clinton (I'm three-quarters through it after nearly two years!), One More Thing by BJ Novak (to come out of the bookhole from reading Rainn Wilson's book), Faith of My Fathers by John McCain, Turtles All the Way Down by John Green, the Roberto Clemente book, and Obama The Call of History by Peter Baker from the New York Times.
Also want to read the autobiography of Andrew Lloyd Webber and John McCain's new book.
Hope to reapply to pick up hours at Arc group homes. I hope that the 2:30-10 pm shift I pulled last Sunday got logged! I hope! I used the new phone system for logging hours, and I don't know if it logged me out properly!
Plan to take in shows at Music Guild, Playcrafter's, and Sara's musical performance in Baby at the Black Box Theatre. Hope to see that Complete Works of Literature at the Spotlight Theatre. Hope to finally get to see the River Bend Players at the Brunner Theatre.
Will try to pass the edTPA by submitting my latest portfolio. Absolutely want to do that.
Greatest HIts Volume 40 will hopefully debut! Dad being in Wisconsin when I take Mason to Des Moines means that likely won't debut on the Iowa State Tournament trip this year. Perhaps the Cubs trip. I'll have to wait and see.
Will continue to love and honor Sara, I know how lucky I am to have her in my life!
