An infestation of bedbugs

One of the reasons I have not had time to post as routinely as I have in the past is we had an outbreak of bedbugs in my parents' house.

It first occurred to me that it could be bedbugs when Jennifer complained of having bug bites in bed on Tuesday June 30th.

I had a frightening flashback to my experience living at 2922 West Pine in Canton. I came back after a weekend in early April to find my bed, and the walls, crawling with bugs.

Jen's outbreak was discovered on Wednesday, July 1st.

I insisted we get the mattress and box spring out of her room immediately.

Those went to the garage. A miserable afternoon of trying to get rid of it ensued. Nothing worked out for us. The recycling facility in Scott County was met with a curt lady who told us we needed our own county to help us.

But when I called our county, they said they couldn't schedule a free pick up until Friday, July 24th. This meant three weeks with those bugs festering in the mattress and box spring while it sat in the garage.

In the meantime, the bugs spread throughout the house.

So the hell that I have been enduring every night now for going on four weeks has been waking up to a sting, an itch, an irritation, which indicates that a bug has gotten me and is trying to make a break for it.

I scour the bed, often finding three or four bugs, and then squish them to find, in many cases, my blood in their meal.

Now, on the plus side, we have gotten the house more than halfway cleared out for Kenney's Pest Control to come in and bomb it. They were scheduled to come yesterday, but we just weren't ready.

We got a couch out of the house, which is sitting on our curbside taped under a tarp.

More information as it comes. Wednesday, August 5th is the day Kenney's comes back. And every day, I just tell myself that it will be over soon.
