So, I was thinking about a few Spanish words the other day and there were two in particular which I found to be quite funny.
If you know Spanish, please don't be offended because they are bad words.
The words are:
Cabrón
Maricón
Essentially when you call someone a cabrón (bastard) you are calling them a large goat...(goat)+ ón (suffix for large)...remember this the next time you tell off someone in Spanish.
Maricón (queer, gay (derogatory)) in my opinion is equally as funny. Marica (magpie)+ ón (suffix for large) = a large magpie...I'm not sure really where that comes from, but maybe because magpies make a lot of noise and squawk a lot.
However, if you take the word, mariquita (ladybug)...by calling somebody a maricón(gay)...you are essentially calling them a very large ladybug.
Now you might tell me, Kyle, what does mariquita have to do with maricón? We can look to a fly and mosquito for help with this problem.
Mosca (fly/bug) + ito (Masc suffex for small) = mosquito (with linguistic c-qu).
Likewise, Marica (magpie) + ita (fem suffix for small) = mariquita (with linguistic c-qu).
Not only that, but the word pendejo, when referring to body parts, is a pubic hair. I laugh every time I hear people referring to others as pendejos.
Interesting huh?
