There I was; pinned.
My arms remained flaccid and heavy by my side.
Any attempt to move them became pointless.
The tips of my fingers were buzzing with adrenaline or sobriety, I couldn’t tell which.
My heart wasn’t beating, or if it was, it was too fast to make out a rhythm.
My body was awake.
The buzzing spread from my fingers to my elbows, shoulders and then my chest. A shroud of pain nestled in around my lower ribs.
Somewhere, someone was screaming and crying and yelling incoherent words into the air… or at me.
I tried opening my eyes.
Only the left one would cooperate.
I blinked.
A dark hue of red began to cloud my already limited vision.
“Alice?”
The hysteric voice was calm and close.
“Alice! Alice, can you hear me?!”
I could hear.
“PLEASE! ALICE!!”
Then I couldn’t.
