Nineteenth Lotus

Bell, Lotus! When you get home I have dinner ready! I tried something new since the cookbook did not have anything that sounded interesting. I also have a surprise for you, Lotus!

[There's a rather long pause in the writing; that had been the entire entry. And then Youth resumes writing very hurriedly.]

There are more. And some of them ate some ( Read more... )

You thought bringing one of those things home was a good idea why?
So you're cooking us pesticides for dinner now?

It was for Lotus!

It is just spicy! They cannot handle spice! That is all! I am sure!

Why not something normal? Like a bird, or a turtle, or hamster?

You're sure? Maybe someday it will be me who stops "cooing" after eating your cooking.

I saw it and thought it would be special and that he would like it.

You have never cooed. Coed. Cooo-ed. I do not know how to spell that. But I know what you mean and I would be very sad. I will not use that pepper again.

And then you poisoned it. I see.

Cooed, I think is correct. Coed=co-ed, which isn't applicable with either of us. ...And I guess I could coo, under the right conditions, with the right incentive.

Maybe we should stick to non-spicy cooking until the trauma of this incident wears off? In some 5 years or so?

I did not mean to! It got into the food while I was writing! I think I do not know which one was the first one. It multiplied.

...Would you even want to coo?

FIVE YEARS? No! I will just not use that pepper! I can cook some that is not spicy, if you will go find hot sauce for myself and Lotus.

Instead of a pet, now Lotus could have a fur coat.
I guess Turtle is lucky he was far less curious about your cooking.

Not especially. Then again, I'm not very noisy anyway.

Yes, five years.
I could do that. Just make sure it stays out of my bowl/plate/etc, ok?

I do not think he would appreciate that. And that is a very sad thing to say. I would never feed Turtle something that he is not supposed to eat, and peppers are not good things for turtles.

No. You are not. I think it would be strange if you cooed.

Okay. It will be seperate and on the table for us to add.

It was just a suggestion.
Well, it wasn't as if you intended to feed these things our dinner, did you?

Probably. After all, you're the noisy one. Though I don't think any of the noises you've made have been anywhere near cooing. They're usually louder than that.

Ok.

I did not mean to. They are not very smart. Not like Turtle.

[The pen rests for a moment while he considers how to reply. It's been some time since anyone else has replied here. They're probably not reading. Not even Lotus.] I am looking for a radio. And then more.

I was unaware we were raising a genius Turtle.

Ear plugs might be a good investment too.

[pentaps] I'll see what I can do about rounding up batteries--borrow from the TV remote, if necessary. And you might want to find him some tapes or CDs or whatever. I don't think there is a Sphere radio station.

He is being trained! He is not stupid!

I will find some tomorrow. I think those should be easy to find. Do you think if I leave them in his room he will understand? I would prefer that over handing them to him.

Ah! That is right. I will look for those as well in the Marketplace.

I never said he was. I merely said that I wasn't aware of his genius. He hides it well.

Probably. Or I can give them to him.

Good. Because I don't think white-noise-static will block out the noises you make.

Turtle is a special turtle.

Would you mind? Do you think he would be fine with that? Or would he be upset?

No. I do not think so. I have been more quiet for him! But I like making noises with you. And having you do things that make me make noises.

Of course. A trait I'm sure he shares with his master.

I'm fine with whatever.
He's your kid. What do you think he'd think?

Yeah, you have been quieter lately. I've missed those noises. Next chance I get, I'm going to have to do things to make sure you're extra loud.

Thank you!

I think he would know what it means and that he will not be happy to get them, but maybe that you are making the effort to help would make him not as not happy?

Yes. I will check Lotus' work schedule.
