He has trained for this, trained tirelessly. If he could not do 500 laps of the village, then he did 2,000 pushups. If he could not finish the 2,000 pushups, there were trees to kick, targets to punch, hands to walk on. There was always another way to train, and he took them all, because he was the Beast of his village, the best-trained, the very symbol of youth.
But now there’s a threat to what matters to him, and he’s reacting. There might be orders from a female voice; he’s not sure. It’s hazy. Nature plays into it too. Leaves, sand, mist, fire… Leaves must save sand. It makes no sense, but he knows this is what’s going on; this is the goal.
It’s a rescue. That much comes back to him.
The reason he’s following a dog while on a rescue doesn’t come back to him, but it feels natural. So does having the three at his back. He can’t look back to see them, but he knows they’re there, precious pieces of his soul. They were with him, and he was proud of them. Together, they were… They were.
And together, they were on this mission, this rescue mission. The power of Youth would prevail against Evil! And Hip Aloofness. He wasn’t sure how that fit in. But he, and the three precious to him, stood for Youth. Of that, he was certain. Or, well, they ran for Youth. They weren’t standing still; they were headed to a base. His team of four would get there first, and they would beat Hip Aloofness there.
