Happy Thanksgiving!

Last night Steph and I met up with our close friends at Fireside for one last night of getting together and just talking about whatever like it was no big thing, or like Steph and I weren't leaving in 30 hours. Well, okay, we did give them back the last of their stuff we'd glommed onto, and they gave us an extremely awesome going away present from them and a few other people (you know who you are. Thank you so much; we were really overwhelmed by your generosity!). But otherwise it was just kind of a regular night.

It turned out that snagvictim, ryansara, quirkybird and Douglas Wolk were there as well, but it had nothing to do with us. So we got to wish them all farewell one last time as well.

It struck me driving home that although I'll miss people and places, this move is just a next step in that wacky process of life. It's just a change, and change is never easy, but it is inevitable. So while logistics and finances still worry me, the actual concept of relocating our lives leaves me surprisingly unphased. Is that a word? I dunno. Anyway, I don't see this as an opportunity to start fresh or reinvent myself or any of that nonsense. We all do that every day, whether we do it consciously or otherwise. At some point I'm sure I'll get all moody and sentimental about all this, but I'm saving it up for after we get to the midwest. I promise to spare you guys the zomgtrauma. =)

But in the meantime, it's Thanksgiving. I told a friend a while ago that I wasn't looking forward to the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays this year. I'm not sure that she really believed me, and it appears she was right. I find myself very grateful for a great many things today.

So here's wishing all of you a good day with family and other loved ones. Stay safe, fat, and happy.
