Er, yes. The Friday sketches are all my stuff, usually drawn on Thursday night when cattifer reminds me that tomorrow is Friday. Big-titty-pirate-chick in the next post = not me, though.
yeah, I just wanted to underline that that's probably the biggest thing holding you back; but at the same time acknowledge that I took it too far to the point where I paralyzed my self:
I think you need to seriously study it more, if you want to be better; but just not as seriously as I did;
or maybe jsut not let it paralyze you as much as it has me: You're drawing fairly consistently; and I'm not. In the end that matters more. Which by the way I do applaud you for.
um... the armor is pretty much covering all anatomy
My intent wasn't to critique James.
My intent was to praise him; but one: to first clarify that he drew it (I think it would be rather demoralizing to be like 'this is so much better than anything else you've done' about something he didn't draw) two: to explain why I thought this latest was so head & shoulders above anything else he's done.
The pic you linked is also quite good, but not as good as the plushie, in my opinion; and it largely hides most of his problems as with anatomy.
In my opinion, a drawing doesn't have to show anatomy to be well done. Even though the armor was covering the anatomy, you could still tell that he knew what was going on under it all, which is the most important part. While I agree that his handling of anatomy in general isn't consistent(and good lord, who among us can claim that ours is), I think the Lumi drawing proves he is making serious improvement.:'} The plushie is a fabulous piece of cartooning.:'} I love them both. Jinkies...I cold got zapped back to art college. What'd we just pin our drawings up on the wall in class....?:'}

because, to me, it's head adn shoulders over other stuff I've seen of yours.
i think that's because it's entirely subjective subject matter:
meaning you aren't hampered by anatomy issues
which, as I've said before: hold you back something fierce.
here's hoping you don't get completely lost in that study as I have though.

Anatomy is a factor of figure drawing;
to what degree is dependent on the style being utilized.
I have extremely high standards in regard to anatomy.
as such any discussion about this is going to be rather futile:
our standards and paradigms leave us at an impasse.
i stand by my original statement.
best to you.
