В современных системах очень часто ставят override, чтобы во время, например, приготовления пищи можно было увеличить скорость вытяжки на кухне. В душевой то же самое, иногда автоматически, при высокой влажности.

Я же говорю, вентиляционные системы слегка отличаются друг от друга. Есть variable speed systems. Есть MHRV systems. Good system in a well-insulated and air blower-tested building runs constantly on a very low setting just to remove stale air and add fresh one. This is where volume control is especially important. But even standard HVAC systems - as per the link - can be setup to run at different pre-set speeds, which means different volume of air passing through the filters.
It's all theoretical anyway, I wonder how many people actually change filters at least quarterly.
