"No, no, no! Stupid," he growls, but remembers to keep his voice low. "Must find Daniel..."
His legs disagree. He sinks into the nearest chair and scans the crowd. Two women dancing together -- scandalous! -- catch his eye. The redhead he recognizes -- it's Daniel's old flame, Leslie (he can't seem to recall her last name now), the Twilight Lady. The brunette reminds him of someone, but he can't place who. She's tall and pleasant and her smile is sweet when she casts a glance in his direction...
Adrian walks through Walter's line of sight and he can't help but follow him with his eyes. He's always known that Adrian's an attractive man, but it's never affected him like this before. Maybe he's just never let it. Maybe he's been wrong all this time, hating him for selling out...
Stupid! he repeats silently, and beats his head against the wall abruptly. The spike was drinked.
No, that's not right. "The drink was spiked," he says out loud, and feels inordinately proud of himself for getting it out correctly.
"What?"
He scrubs a hand over his face, and when he looks up again he realizes that the brunette is standing in front of him.
"Ror-- Walter. Are you okay? You don't look so well." She bends down to look into his face, and it suddenly occurs to him who she reminds him of.
The tiny owl glittering at the end of her necklace confirms it.
Why didn't Dan ever tell him he had a sister?
