cuteness unbounded

I told Denny I would post pictures of the girls from work that I have been referencing in my posts. And so here they are, as culled using the super sleuth skills I picked up from Bobby.

Also, as a bonus, I actually spent some expanded time with the two of them over the past few days. First, I ran Bay to Breakers (a 7.5 mile run in San Francisco from the bay to the ocean) with the new cutie on Sunday, and had an absolute blast. For ease of travel to the race on Sunday morning, I was invited to stay at her boyfriend's place in Berkeley Saturday night. I took her up on this offer and so I got to share another evening with her (as well as her boyfriend and another friend), and had fun just hanging out. The next morning, we all ran together during the race until about the 4 mile mark, when she started increasing the pace. I kept with her because I had been previously laying back just to stay with them and enjoyed going faster. As a result, we slowly left her boyfriend and other friend behind. After a while, she realized this and we decided to slow to let them catch up, but as soon as they caught back up she increased her pace again and we started losing them for a second time.

This was at about the 5 mile mark, and her boyfriend must have told her it was okay to leave him behind because we never looked back. I ran the last 2.5 miles with just her and it was awesome. I mentioned in a previous post that she had requested that I train her for the race, which I had tried to do but was largely unsuccessful because of her extensive tennis schedule. At any rate, I knew how much training she had done (running, tennis, or otherwise) for the past two months, and so I had a good feel for her level of fitness. I told her a few days before the race that she should shoot for completing the 7.5 miles in 80 minutes. She was anticipating a much slower time because the longest she had ever run consecutively prior to the race was 4 miles, but I was convinced that 80 minutes was a good target. So when we got off on our own at the 5 mile mark, I started keeping track of the time and our pace to push her to the goal time.

For the last half mile, we needed to make up a little bit of time so I persuaded her to give it all she had left, and coaxed her to step it up and finish strong, which she did. Rather shockingly, we finished at exactly 1:20:00 according to my watch, which made me extremely happy for her. She had expressed so many concerns prior to the race about just being able to finish it without walking that I was so proud to be there with her for the last 2.5 miles as she ran her way to the 80 minute target. What was also sweet about running that last segment with her was that the pictures were taken at the 6 and 7 mile marks, so I got an assortment of race day pictures with her from the website. They are mostly of low quality and since I snagged them from the site they have proof written on them, but nevertheless, they are nice to have.

Here is one of the better ones

What prompted this post (in addition to saying I would post pictures) was that her birthday was actually today so I devised a plot to go above and beyond what I did for the original cutie's birthday (if you forgot, I newspapered her desk and its contents). Since the two of them are good friends, I figured that the original cutie probably was going to do something to her cubicle as well, so I decided to team up with her to make an even grander showing. I couldn't really come up with anything awesome (I even tried asking William for assistance when we were hanging out last week but with no luck), so I ultimately had to go with the only plot that seemed interesting/feasible. I decided to basically do the same thing all over again, except this time I would put all of the items in boxes first, and then wrap them. I figured this was a sufficient upping of the ante, and it actually seemed quite fitting because she is moving this weekend and could potentially use the boxes after the fact.

I proposed the idea to the original cutie and she agreed, so after work yesterday we met back up at the office around 9. She had previously gone out to get some wrapping paper, but upon finding it to be so expensive, decided instead to get this massive paper table cloth with some balloons and "Let's Celebrate" written on it in different colors. I had previously gotten some duct and masking tape from the store, and then upon arriving at the office I had to forage through the recycling dumpster outside the building to amass a quality supply of different sized cardboard boxes. From there, we got to work with me laying out the plan for everything and boxing things up, and with her wrapping the boxes in the paper.

I must say, the two man operation was clutch, and contributed to us being able to completely box/wrap the entire cubicle in just two hours (hilariously, we didn't even use up half of the table cloth roll in the process). Not only that, but this also meant I got to spend a quality two hours talking and laughing with the original cutie, which make for a great evening. In the end, we totally outdid my bare-bones first effort, and even managed to throw in a nice touch to go along with my Kleenex box idea from before: I boxed up the phone, the keyboard, and the mouse with the cords going through a hole in each respective box, so that they remained plugged in yet boxed and wrapped at the same time. I was especially proud of that idea, and the new cutie commented on how cool that was the next morning when we were talking about what had been done to her cubicle.

Like last time, I played it off like I didn't do it, though I am quite certain she knows that it was obviously me. The original cutie and I had decided the night before to try and blame each other for doing it such that the new cutie would never know who actually did it, but I was pretty unsuccessful in passing the blame so it largely just fell on me. I got some pictures of who the real culprit was though, and I am just waiting for the right time to release them to the eager public.

See? It was the original cutie!

All in all, I spent a glorious Sunday morning running with the new cutie, while spending an equally enjoyable Monday evening chilling/scheming with the original cutie. A good couple of days, don't you think?
