I made this post for the "DS Recs gets Social" post at, well, ds_recs I figured it could stand to be reposted here, in case anyone came wandering over curiously into my journal. So here goes...
Hi! I’m spainja. I’m 28 years old, female, married, living in the Southeastern US.
I’ve been a dS fan for…almost exactly 2 years now. I first got into due South over Christmas break, 2003, by very deliberate decision. No, I’m serious-one day I said, “I need a new fandom,” went to PolyAmorous Recs, chose due South, and started working my way through the recs. It didn’t take too long to figure out that I’d made a good choice.
Pairings: F/K is my benchmark for OTP. It all comes down to these guys. But my favorite character is Ray Vecchio. I find the Fraser & Vecchio friendship to be complex, multi-layered and fascinating, and I like to ponder it.
Characters: Oh, everyone. Except maybe Dewey. And season 3-4 Thatcher.
Likes: I love fics where the characters are skirting just on the cusp of discovery. The moment right before the revelation-it’s like the instant before a sneeze or an orgasm. Fics that I can think of that have this are Fallby Kaneko, Falling for Youby china shop, O My America, by Laura Kaye.
Dislikes: Cross-dressing squicks me-I don’t know why. “Some Like It Red” makes me squirm (except for the “changing in the Riv” scene, in which I discovered that apparently I have a kink for guys in makeup. Who knew?) The whole BDSM mentality confuses me. I totally understand “tie me up and fuck me!” It’s the headgames I don’t get. I can deal with incest in certain situations-I have no problem with Fraser/Maggie, but Frannie/Vecchio makes me kack.
In my LiveJournal you will find…not much at all. I got the LJ account solely so that I could A)comment non-anonymously on others’ journals and B)keep a Friendslist of Cool People Who Say Cool Things And Sometimes Post Porn. But I almost never post in my own journal due to a combination of deep-seated neuroses, paranoia, and laziness.
Other Fandoms: dS owns my soul. But I also enjoy reading Stargate, SG-Atlantis, and any fandom where snarky people say funny things and then have hot sex.
Music: Bluegrass, folk, and Spanish pop. I’m probably the only person in existence who has mentally plotted Due South scenes to Oreja de Van Gogh.
Desert Island Fics: Oh, hell. Um, Ten Things to Get Used To, by Speranza. Because it was the first post-COTW fic I read, and in my mind, that’s the official epilogue. True Colors by Kellie Matthews, simply because of the chicken soup scene. And…something by pearl-o…how about Any Other Way. Or maybe A is for Apple.
Plotbunny: So, see, RayV comes back from Vegas, only to discover that Fraser and Kowalski have disappeared. They went up to Canada to mumble something mumble and fell off the face of the earth. So RayV heads up to Canada to find them and ends up teaming up with Maggie, who’s also searching for them. In their search, they find increasing evidence that F and K were, you know, doing it, which Vecchio has trouble dealing with at first. Finally they find them and mumble mumble big climax with explosions.
Also, Vecchio and Maggie have sex.
Dirty Little Secret: I, um, actually own every due South DVD ever released. American and Canadian versions. Plus the DVD of COTW. It’s a long story.
