Sometimes I wonder why the hell I signed up for a career path that involves no one listening to me even when I know what I'm talking about, people giving me orders, people playing around with instruments and ignoring my requests that they stop so I can think properly for a moment, and lots of stress.
  • Oh yeah - because when it doesn't suck, it's completely awesome. (Also it's one of only like three things I'm good at, and the only one of those that might make me any money. Haa.)
Tonight was supposed to be some kind of a special night, with lots of songs and slides and light transitions and I had to design and run all of it. With the lightboard still having crazy errors and the lights being aligned wrong so they point, um, at the floor instead of at the stage. Which, you know, defies all the logic of them being STAGE LIGHTS. So my set had to be JUST-SO in order to even work at all...

...and then our resident diva (the girl who always has a problem with something, acts like she's a perfect angel or a princess or something, and shows up late for practice EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK) decided they lights were too bright for her poor sensitive eyes, and held her hand up in front of the light and refused to sing during practice until eventually someone got up on a chair and MOVED THE LIGHT OUT OF HER EYES. Which means it is now pointing at the floor. Which is already a big enough problem as it is, without having someone take one of the very few lights that point at the stage and effectively destroy my scenes I'd set up. If you're going to sing on stage? GET USED TO BRIGHT LIGHTS. THAT'S HOW IT GOES.

So when I point out that, um, all my hard work was just destroyed, I got a dismissal - "yeah, well if they can't see they can't sing, just deal with it", basically - and then was piled with MORE things to do. With a half hour 'till go-time. Which I'm used to - I got it done - but adfhadh does no one realize that details like lights and proper soundchecks really do matter?

And then after alllll this stuff is over, bandmembers lurk around here and play around on guitars/keyboard/drums and do not listen when I ask them to please stop so that my head does not burst open and spatter them with brains. Finally gone now, though, so I can try to figure out what I'd planned to do online, now. Lalala.

sound, why do i want to be a soundgeek again?, care and feeding of soundgeeks, aaahhh!, omg!, lights
