Today was just beautiful here, pleasantly warm without being humid, sunny without feeling oppressive, and just breezy enough to keep the air circulating. Mica and I walked to
the Cloisters, because it was so lovely and because it was easier than navigating the subway routes.
And wow, they are incredible. I quietly shrieked over nearly everything (okay there were a lot of Virgin & Child iterations), because I am still very much a medieval history nerd.
We passed quite a bit of time sitting in the shade of the courtyard, looking into the garden and watching the passersby. The sparrows were tweeting from the trees, and the roses and lavender was in bloom. A fountain from like the 13th century bubbled in the courtyard's center, and most of the folks passing through paused for selfies.
The unicorn tapestries the Cloisters are known for were actually a bit disappointing, because they came with so little context. I hadn't appreciated how little is actually known about the tapestries. They're gorgeous, stunning honestly, but without the story behind them it's hard for me to find any meaning in them. That's okay: there was an awful lot there besides the tapestries, most of which I found really, really cool.
