today i went to a palace

Mar 26, 2015 20:31

A real live palace, dear readers! I mean, it's in ruins, but not so much that I couldn't imagine the ceilings and the tapestries and the furniture... I just wish I'd felt better, so I could've taken it all in (and taken pictures, which I forgot to do).

I took the train to Linlithgow (lin-LITH-go), where two wonderful women met me and showed me around, and took pity on my poor sick self. I connected with these women through Mum, because they're all fans of the book series and TV show Outlander, and they met on Facebook. Seeing the palace was great, but what was really wonderful was just having the chance to meet up with some friendly people. Ironically I've been wanting to have a real conversation for days and today I can barely talk, but still. My stay in Edinburgh has been great on a sight-seeing level, but I haven't connected with anyone here, not at all, and it's very odd. In virtually every other hostel (where I've stayed more than one night) I've had conversations with people, but that just hasn't happened here. Meh. You can't have everything, I suppose.

I wish I had the energy to write more but honest to Pete I am so tired right now I keep having to pause and close my eyes. It's 8:30, but that's close enough to bedtime, probably.

scotland, tiny adventures, oof
