"what we can do"

Below is a reflection from a member of the current CPT delegation in Iraqi Kurdistan. Yes, yes there is a delegation happening now in Kurdistan. Of course there is: this is CPT. The team's Facebook page has a series of photos and posts about the delegation, if you'd like to learn more, but for now here's an excerpt from the reflection:

'...So, what are we providing? The Christian Peacemaker Team in Iraqi Kurdistan and their local partners are continually providing information about refugees who have not yet received care to the media, the parliament, the United Nations and several Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). CPT also helps Kurdish NGOS with their fundraising, linking several communities together to support each other. ...

'Solidarity has its own power and most importantly, our job here is to listen. As one young woman said, "Some of us are not talking anymore and some of us have to talk all the time. I have to share my story, and I am grateful for anyone who is listening because I know that it is not a nice story."'

Read the rest here.

And if you want, one member of the team is currently raising money for local organizations via a GoFundMe page. CPT does not provide material aid, but some of its partner organizations do. Recently, through funds already raised, they were able to give shampoo and blankets to refugees. Imagine that for a moment, okay?

We do what we can.
