not much to say

Hey there! I'm just fine, except when I think of updating I think, Hm, what could I say? These past two days I've basically just sat around the house. The Pride parade was awesome, but it ended up being pretty exhausting too. Plus it's so nice lounging under the ceiling fan, in the shade of the living room, while it's super sunny and humid outside.

Peter left this evening for Winnipeg, where he'll spend all of July and most of August. I admit, I'm going to miss him a lot. We've become pretty close since co-leading that delegation in early May, which is saying something because we were already close before that. But there's good CPT work to be done in Winnipeg this summer, and Peter's our teammate to do it. But I will miss him. This is what email is for, yes? Yes.

Hm. I finished a book two nights ago that scared the bejeezus out of me, which is an unusual experience -- less because I don't scare easily and more because I do scare easily and so tend to avoid anything remotely considered "horror." But this one came highly recommended, and not just by the big names in the review industry. I fully intend to read the sequel, but, ah, not in bed after midnight in a dark, old, creaky house. Seriously, by the time I finished it (at maybe 2am) I was so worked up I had to repeat calming phrases to myself and then curl up with a book of Alice Walker's essays just to fall asleep.

All in all it was a pretty good ride though. I think I begin to see why some folks do enjoy horror as a genre.

I am currently distracting myself - from both blogging and sleeping - with this gorgeous photo of Maggie Stiefvater's '73 Camaro, Loki. She's touring from Virginia to California right now to promote her latest book, and Loki's taking her there. She also has another car, less vintage cool (though more punch-you-in-the-face cool), but I guess it's staying at home.

These pictures have inspired some of my personal life goals, for the record. They go like this:

1. Finish my manuscript
2. Become a bestselling author
3. Use the money I make becoming a bestselling author to purchase an outrageous, yet not-impractical, vehicle
4. Take awesome photos of said vehicle against beautiful backdrops
5. Win at life

Really, I think these are very straightforward and achievable, don't you? Especially that wee little jump between Steps 1 and 2. TOTALLY ON THIS.

...

Ah. I see I had plenty to say after all. A long if silly post is better than no post at all, right? Right??

books for life, i do actually love my car, toronto, letting you know i'm alive
