Back in Toronto! Peter and I arrived this evening; he had a meeting to go to but I caught a streetcar directly back to the house. It was raining, not hard enough to get me or my bags very wet, but enough to make the air smell like wet sidewalk and dead grass and mud. That was quite pleasant, as long as I didn't inhale too deeply and catch some essence d'exhaust or dog crap instead.
I like taking the train, even though I'm less impressed, so far, with Canada's VIA Rail than I am with Amtrak. Our trains did have wireless! Which meant I essentially stared at my laptop both to and from Ottawa, oh well.
Ottawa seems like a lovely city -- a woman Peter and I met on the train today agreed, and then added, "Well, if you can just ignore the animals in the government." (Ottawa is Canada's capital.) She then qualified that calling the current politicians "animals" was unfair to animals. I suggested "scum."
So, yes, it's lovely! I'd like to go back sometime! Preferably when there's less snow and more sunshine.
In other news, I have been watching the British TV show
My Mad Fat Diary, and I LOVE IT. Seriously, if you are not watching anything right now, do yourself a favor and look this up. (I have no idea if it's on Netflix; I watch it on YouTube like the rule-breaker I am.) It seems like in every episode I alternate between laughing out loud, gasping, clutching my hands to my face, groaning, sighing happily, and laughing again. It's about a teen who's learning how to love herself, basically.
Check it out!
