Wireless! In church! Surely that's some kind of bad combination. (Do they turn it off during services?) But hey! I can make updates! Huzzah!

I am so tired right now I'm kind of silly. I will be retiring shortly, I think.

Briefly:

We're staying at a church in Kenora, and it's this combination of old building, slightly newer building, and building from the 1970s. The walls behind the alter have wood paneling, floor to arched ceiling. So I did not expect the whole place to be equipped with wifi - but it is! And it's high speed! The front of the sanctuary is also populated with an assortment of instrument cases, and an electric drum kit. So it would seem that, despite the building's age, the congregation is fairly young, and/or hip. We're attending the service on Sunday (it's voluntary, but it feels tacky not to go) - I guess I'll find out, eh?

(My Couchsurfing host definitely said "Eh?" when I'd say something she didn't understand. I had to refrain from commenting on it - but it was really cute! Maybe Canadians are similarly charmed when they find folks from the US who say "Y'all" or "Howdy.")

My hosts, who were wonderful, and who have two cute kitties and a very comfy couch, dropped me off at the rental car place this morning, where I exercised my "I am 25 years old and can therefore rent a car!" privilege for the first time. I'd be picking up four other delegation members around Winnipeg, and my delegation leader worked it out so I could get this car. And what a car it is. There's less than 3000 miles on it (about 4300 km). Though I have to admit, I don't like it all that much. For one thing, the turning radius is almost as bad as my brother's Taurus wagon. Though it's a relatively small vehicle, it feels like I'm driving a boat. The rear window feels extremely far away - it is also quite small. And I could not adjust the seat so that I sat comfortably. This may be the "nicest" car I've ever driven, but I don't think I'll be wanting to own one, ever.

Anyway. Picking up people was fun, particularly the part where I didn't have my GPS, and had to navigate traffic in a foreign city in a strange car while periodically glancing down at the directions on my computer screen. Once I picked up the first person, I had her read me directions. The next fun part was fitting everyone's luggage into this relatively small car. I don't know how they did it, truly, but all but a few handbags fit into the trunk. We should've taken pictures.

I spent the better part of today, in all honesty, being too exhausted to fully plug into this whole experience. (Now, of course, I'm all wound up, and still tired. Hoom.) Fortunately it was just the first day, and we're all still feeling each other out. Hopefully I'll sleep more than six hours tonight (eight! can I get an eight please?), and tomorrow feel much more ... able - to participate in what I'm already certain will be a fantastic experience.

And I can tell you about it, because I have Internet! YAY! :D

cpt, it's me, canada (is a vast country)
