With only six of us remaining at the co-op last night (because PSU gives everyone a week off for Thanksgiving break, so most folks were gone by Sunday), we shared a nice, intimate meal (chili! cornbread! fried potatoes! and third helpings of all three!), and watched the snow fall outside. Because it was snowing. The ground was completely covered. I wiggled with glee every time I looked outside.
Jordan suggested a post-meal, constitutional winter walk, and we all agreed. (Apparently walking after dinner is good for one's constitution.) We bundled up, and prepared for a stroll ... until Jordan remembered we had sleds. Three saucers, in fact.
With that, the nature of our evening outing changed dramatically.
Behind the High School South Building, there is a very, very steep hill. (Caro, it's an extension of the same one you tossed yourself down during Ren Faire, junior year, hollering, As youuu wiiiiisssh! because you'd dressed up like the Dread Pirate Roberts that day.) And there was just enough snow on the ground, and it was just wet enough, to make for some seriously amazing sledding.
So, for almost an hour, we proceeded to get ourselves absolutely soaked, and had a positive blast, flying down the hill on the saucers - one at a time, three at a time, or, on two memorable occasions, all six at a time. (We formed a train. And sat on laps. And went very, very fast.) I hadn't laughed so much in days. I can't remember the last time I actually went sledding. It'd been years.
When we all got back, squeaking shoes and soggy bottoms, we changed and Jimmy made "skookins", which are scone-muffin-cookie cookies, and also delicious. And then Erin found "Rocko's Modern Life" online, and we watched an episode, buried under blankets on the couch.
And I just wanted to write this down, so I remember it. Because it was a really, really good time.
