The Parents came to visit this past weekend, which was nice but it was awfully rainy so they didn't make it in friday night ... which was actually good because I was able to play WoW, do a Scarlet Monastery run, and make some new friends around my level ;) But hanging out with the fam was nice, we ate Tibetan food and went to Trader Joe's with the car, bought 'supplies' for our Halloween party, and hung out at home watching hockey and eating burritos and cheesecake. Which is why it's probably good that my parents don't visit every weekend ;) Sunday we went to an Afghani restaurant for Erin's (pre)birthday ... the food is oddly similar to Indian food even in the names ... and Jenny came along. So that was pretty cool ^_^
Weird coincidence of the weekend ... apparently the guy in my study group that I'd pegged for being Arabic is actually Irani and a Baha'i which is incredibly awkward for me because I have still not gotten in touch with the Boston community but I suppose that now I shall. He's in the teacher-ed program, and grew up in Togo and went to school in Buffalo NY (I think). Hooray for children of pioneers, poor guys takes 5 minutes to explain where he's from :P
Today ... was incredibly long. Turned in an assignment at 7:59am (thankfully I made it in time) and had class through 12, went to the gym, lectures 2-4 and section meeting for another class 4-6... so 8 hours of class, I was on campus a total of 10 hours. But luckily monday is my busiest day.
The study section was actually incredibly interesting, we had some great discussions and I am left with many thoughts. For one thing, would I send my children to an inner-city school, relying on my ability as a parent to help them succeed, on the principal that we only have true equity when the most privileged would be willing to subject themselves to the conditions of the least privileged? I really don't think that I would, and I wouldn't expect someone else to either. Which I guess only goes to show that we don't have equity yet. But how will we get it when the people with the power to change things don't want to see the situation of the others? -_- I really do believe in the power of doing things from the bottom up ... but individuals have much more strength when organized... meh. musings ^_^
I was going to write a rant on Title 1 (not what you'd expect, actually, more analyzing the reasons for it) but I need to do some research tonight.
And I'm in the process of dying my hair red with henna. Hope it comes out well ;) If not... eek.
Take care, be well, stay schmexy
