Over five years ago, a computer program was being worked on known as the VOCALOID program. This program, in its essence, was to give a voice to a sequence on ones and zeros. One of the men working this was a brilliant man who could build lifelike robots. He could build them with a functional brain, a personality, possibly even a soul. What he lacked was a purpose, a reason for their being.
The voice was the key.
GUMI was not made by this man. GUMI was made by another company, the “younger sister” to Kamui Gakupo. But like other Vocaloids made from other people, GUMI came to call the Vocaloids made by that man family, becoming Len’s best friend. GUMI naturally became a singer, following in the footsteps of her friends, and GUMI was welcomed by the fans. She has a strong fanbase, nowhere near as large as Miku, but a strong one indeed.

GUMI’s a unique girl to say the least, actually so far as to make you wonder if she’s really seeing the same things as everyone else. Probably the most hyperactive and oddest of the group. If there’s something she loves, it’s to have fun no matter the place or time, whether that includes pranks or acting bizarre. Like when she refers to herself in third person, or wearing bright clothes, or popping out of nowhere. No matter how strange it is, GUMI’ll act like it’s all normal.
She does have a fascination with really anything having to do with space or science fiction, many of her songs subject to the theme. Like sometimes she’ll introduce herself as a space alien with a deadpan seriousness. Oh, she is usually messing around with people when she does this, but she’ll only laugh about it if they are able to discern she’s just another singing robot. GUMI really is a space case. And a mad scientist. She builds….things….
If around her brother, or if someone even mentions Gakupo, GUMI reveals herself to be a very devoted younger sister. Actually to the point of fanaticism, and can become a tad overprotective of him. She loves cooking for him, mostly dishes that include carrots.
When GUMI’s depressed, everyone feels it. She’s usually so bright a bubbly, so she’s often seen as the one link that keeps up everyone’s spirit. And she doesn’t snap out of it fast. She’ll put on a smile and do her best, but things take time.
GUMI’s favorite songs to sing are usually pop with a happy beat to them, even more so if she’s able to do a duet with her big brother. But a lot of her songs are also very dark and serious, taking on strong subject matters like self loathing, love lost, even suicide. And like the other Vocaloids, GUMI can get lost in her own music. Seen in the PVs, she can be really passionate and serious in her performance, letting her music tell a story so others can be moved too.
