Christchurch Earthquake Map

Clodagh sent me on this cool map of the Christchurch Earthquake. It shows all the hundreds of aftershocks, their magnitude, position, and depth. Being a statistician, I just had to put together some trending info.

When I collated this yesterday, they'd had 655 aftershocks.

Day / Avg Mag / Max Mag / # of aftershocks
16   3.4   4.5   36
15   3.5   4.4   31
14   3.4   4.3   25
13   3.3   4.3   33
12   3.6   4.6   14
11   3.4   4.2   11
10   3.5   4.5   14
9    3.0   4.5   71
8    3.3   5.0   45
7    3.3   5.5   58
6    3.3   5.4   119
5    3.4   5.0   100
4    3.9   7.1   97

The initial 7.1 magnitude quake was on the 4th. According to Wiki, you can only feel an aftershock if it's above 3.0. But that still means around 440 were strong enough to be felt! Anything above 5.0 is enough to cause damage to buildings.
