Random Lurve

First of all, I'm sitting here watching Lipstick Jungle, and omg, did the opening credits just say Cheyenne Jackson and Christine Ebersol?  This episode should be interesting...

I'm really pissed at this economy for canceling my favorite TV shows!  ... looking back, that may have been the most selfish thing I've ever said.  But both Lipstick Jungle AND Pushing Daisies are going?  Wah!  How am I going to spend my time now?

So I can't believe this, but I was emotionally moved by a postal employee.  Tonight I was all cranky because I ended up having to go to the post office (all the way on 3rd Avenue) after I was already at work until 7:30pm on a Friday night. I stalked my way there, so pissed I had to be there, but was pleasantly surprised when there were only a few people in line. I was called to the window, and as I walked up, the older woman let out a yell about how much she loved my rain boots.

Now, my rain boots - they're ratty, torn, and falling apart, but I love them SO much.  Luckily, from a distance, I don't think you notice how beat up they are.  She made me twirl so she could check them out - how could I not smile?

When I got to the window, she helped me put together my mail (certified) and asked me if I was planning to go to the inaugural ball.  Taken aback, I told her that I wasn't, but that I was actually trying to find a place for Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas to stay during the inauguration.  She told me that she would be going down for the ceremony.

This woman proceeded to tell me how she had been there when Martin Luther King Jr. had made his famous "I have a dream" speech, and how when Obama was elected, she knew that that dream had finally come true.  It was so moving to hear from someone who was so deeply affected by the outcome of the election, not because it affected their career, but because of what it meant to them as a human being.  While she stuck the label on my letter, her eyes teared up while she told me about a man she knew who bled to death on the highway, because the EMT wouldn't allow him in the ambulance, a man whose great invention had been stolen by another, and no one would do anything because of his race.

I left the post office, no longer feeling cranky or irritable, but instead feeling inspired.  It made me feel like a part of something bigger, and it was amazing.

In other news, the boy and I are going out again this weekend, and I am amazed at how excited I am.  We talked tonight while I was on my way to meet Lisa, and as much as I hate talking on the phone, it was so much fun talking to him.  It's funny - I recently joined eHarmony (I know, don't judge), but wouldn't it be weird if I ended up with the guy I've known for years?  I suppose only time will tell.

Went out for Mexican tonight with Lisa, which was great fun.  She's one of my only friends who really understands how rough office jobs are, and it's nice to have that time with her.  We were talking about how we were both in town for New Years' Eve this year, and I can't believe it, but we decided to go celebrate in Times Square.  We figured that we'd both have been here for five new years, and it was time for us to bite the bullet and do it.  It will be COLD and CROWDED and probably HELLISH, but hey, I'm excited!

So some of you may recall, that this big opening of Twilight was actually supposed to be the opening of Harry Potter.  Do we recall this?  Well, the new trailer was released today, and it looks KILLER.  I'll say it, and I'll say it again: stupid twilight.

Anyway, FINALLY the weekend - time for rest!

cheyenne jackson, my crazy job, rain boots, tv, dating, christine ebersol, lisa, drinking, obama, new year's eve, celebrities, harry potter, pushing daisies, twilight, lipstick jungle, mexican
