The Year of the Dog

Jan 29, 2006 17:47

Today is the first year of the Chinese New Year, and this year, it's the year of the Dog. Now, in the english language, calling someone a dog is not exactly a good thing. But in the chinese culture, the dog is one of the better symbols of their zodiac.

Year of the Dog
1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006

People born in the Year of the Dog possess the best traits of human nature. They have a deep sense of loyalty, are honest, and inspire other people¡¦s confidence because they know how to keep secrets. But Dog People are somewhat selfish, terribly stubborn, and eccentric. They care little for wealth, yet somehow always seem to have money. They can be cold emotionally and sometimes distant at parties. They can find fault with many things and are noted for their sharp tongues. Dog people make good leaders. They are compatible with those born in the Years of the Horse, Tiger, and Rabbit.

That there is a quick synopsis of the Dog of Chinese Zodiac. And I happen to be one of them, if just barely. Born at the very end of 1982.

At any rate, we were invited, my family and I, to celebrate the changing of the new year at the China Palace, the buffet store close to us. We are friends with the owner....and it was amazing. You see, we got to eat real chinese food. Not the stuff you find of the buffet....no. I am talking things I've never seen before. And stuff I had never tried before. Sure, there was the regular pork and chicken, but there were other things. I ate frogs legs last night. Delicious by the way. Not much meat, but good. Also took some shrimp, and my first taste of lobster. Not a bad meat either, but still, I won't go beating down the doors of sea-food restruants to get at it. Then there were the foods I have never touched before. Like duck. Never had duck before tonight. And I got to eat some special duck too, aside from the (peaking) duck. I got to eat ducks FEET. And I tell you, it was delicious. But the most interesting thing......jellyfish. It looked like sauerkraut, but tasted totaly different. It was good. Very good. A little extra chewing required, but wonderful.

So anyway, just thought I would tell you all that, and a Happy 4704!
