Public Speaking.....so it has come to this.

It's the class I have put out of my head to get into since I found out it was a required course nearly 2 years ago. Or maybe it was sooner....I forget how long I've been here. At any rate, I have hoped to land myself back into a course like this one, ever since my days in Debate back in High School. I loved that class.....never very good at my own speaches though. Always spent to much time in the introduction. Teacher thought I would make a good storyteller though. Wait, back on topic.

The class was full when I walked in (I was 3 minutes late, go figure). I actually spent the entire class sitting on the floor beside the television cart. Yes, on the floor. The professor is.....interesting. His name is Arri Stone. He looks like a bit of a hippy....but he is a touch crazy. Apperntly, his work as an educator is very important. He takes his methods into competition, and apperntly wins good money with them. They are so important, in fact, that there is a WARNING on the back of the sylibus that tells us that, if we sell anything we have gained from this class, he will prosicute us to the fullest extent avilible, which means up to $100,000 in fines, and a possible 10 year prison term. SO, nobody is getting my notes from this class.....if I take any.

After eating up an hour of our hour and fifteen minute class period going over the sylibus, he then had each of us stand up, and tell everyone a little about ourselves. Classic trick for any course really, but even more so for this one. At any rate, I was one of the last people called to speak. Probably becuase I signed up so late for the class. And belive it or not, I got a laugh. Let me see if I can remember what I said.

"Hello, I'm Jack. I'm not going to bother telling you how old I am.* I've been called cynical and snide. I tend to say things that I think are witty and clever, though everyone else tends to think they are condasending and rude. So, I have decided to adhear to the old adage that says it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then to open one's mouth and confirm it."

And that got a laugh. You know, I think I might be able to hold my own in this one. Now, I can't wait till tomarrow rolls around.....United States Military History, centered on the 20th Century. Ooooooh, I am SO going to own this class.

*NOTE* - I said that because the age range in the class, not counting the two older women [one looked to be in her early 50s, the other told us she had two daughters who had graduated HS], ran from a 17yr old over achiver, to a just-turned-20 year old. So yeah, I felt a little out of place....course, it's only 3 years, but hey.

End of Line
