Weekend Update
The hardest thing about the job I have right now is probably ordering lunch for the higher-ups. I hate ordering food for people I know because I'm always scared I'll get it wrong or something. People I don't even know? No thank you. Booking flights and travel arrangements is also weird for me. I've never had to do that for someone else before. And it makes it difficult sometimes to be one person arranging travel for another person but using a company credit card with yet another person's name on it. We have events going on and being planned so everyone is kind of running around like headless chickens. There's also a little studio in the office, so the doctors were in the other day filming a commercial or tutorial or something.
Still not complaining about anything though. People have been really great, and even though there have been one or two little hitches, for the most part it's been really good. Plus I got paid yesterday. At my old job, we got the checks in the mail. Here, the payroll lady was able to make my check the same day I turned in my time sheet/invoice so I actually got paid for both of the weeks I've worked so far. That was a nice surprise! Taxes aren't being taken out so it looks like a lot more than I'll actually get to use, but even putting away half of that leaves me with a fair amount for the time being.
It was nice to sleep in today though. Nothing like working and having to get up early to make you appreciate sleeping in. I naturally woke up at like 7:30am (which is weird but I guess my body's getting used to work schedule again) but I went back to sleep until 10ish. The last two nights, I've had really vivid dreams. Don't remember all the details now, but two nights ago I had a dream where I was hanging out with Team Tardis and it was awesome.
I was even productive today! I FINALLY shipped off my packages for help_japan. Just in time too. The post office closes at noon on Saturdays and I didn't know that. They closed the doors while I was still in line. Now I've just got to start making icons for the other winners. I also went food shopping and got stuff to make cupcakes for the Doctor Who premiere! Only a week away OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!! I bought blue sprinkles and I'm going to make them TARDIS-y... somehow ;) I'm also going to spend this week rewatching series 5 in order to get ready.
The past week or so, I've also been watching a lot of The X-Files, especially from the first season, and I've been missing it something fierce. X-Files was my first real fandom, and you never forget your first. I just forgot how much I loved it and how much I still do. It still manages to creep me out. I miss having bad guys with names like 'The Cigarette-Smoking Man' (CSM for short) or 'The Well-Manicured Man' or how I would draw that X all over my notebooks. I forgot how much I loved Mulder and his weirdness. Scully was short, badass, and is probably the reason I love short, red hair so much. I miss Skinner, Krycek, The Lone Gunmen, Mulder's apartment, all of it. For my birthday, I'm so asking for the complete series. Damn.
Tomorrow I'm going to the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown. Yay food and parades!!
