4 months into Hong Kong

It’s been close to 4 months now with my time in Hong Kong, but it seems like time has really whizzed by. With the holidays approaching, I decided to get away from the political situation with the vet school and make my way home to the US to celebrate it with my family. Since being in Hong Kong, my work situation hasn’t been too exciting, so I won’t talk about it too much, but my social life hasn’t been too bad spending each weekend exploring a new country. I’ve met a wide variety of people and found myself making friends with those in academia at HKU and in veterinary medicine. Maybe there’s a connection with these people because we have commonalities (from our choice of flats over heels, awareness of the environment, and love for animals). Hong Kong is an international hub that’s exciting and new, but even within the countries that each person originates from, it’s very diverse. I’ve met the common douche-bags who “prey” on pretty Asian women, ultra-conservatives who “pray” before each meal, pushy real-estate agents who stand on the corners of TST, and also the exceptional expat who doesn’t mind coming to the Kowloon side for a change. I have to appreciate this in people, but shutter at the disgust of some expats who believe that Kowloon is China and would avoid it like the plague. Really? I live there. I guess it’s a determination on whether we can be friends. :op
