Time

Life gets shorter everyday. One thing I do have is a fairly good long term memory. Spans of ten years seem like months to me. When I follow this sort of relationship with time, project it into the future, and realize the numerous people I have known who have died in their fifties, it really shocks me how short life really can be.

I used to work as a busboy at this hotel/restaurant 20 years ago. The owner was a guy who started the American Sunroof Company. I only met him once. A real big shot he was!

One time George Bush senior visited and ate in the restaurant, but I didn't work that day. He was vice president at the time. The Bush family was friends with the owner, which I didn't know at the time.

In 2001 the owner hung himself with a vacuum cleaner cord.

Now the company that he started has filed for bankruptcy and sold off its assets to a hedge fund.

They closed shop in Lansing, Michigan and the workers might not even get payed for their last two weeks.
