This year, like last year, Arisia plans on having a "quiet room" -- a guestroom with bathroom set aside for attendees who need a quiet place to sit or lie down. The quiet room will be staffed by Arisia volunteers, and will be a fragrance-free space for those with allergies.
Arisia has 3,000 attendees. It can be an overwhelming con. And not everyone who attends Arisia is staying in the hotel (some people are staying at the overflow hotel, some people come just for the day, etc.), so not everyone who needs a quiet place to withdraw to can always find one. Hence, the quiet room!
But we need volunteers to help make this happen -- people to volunteer their hours, and someone to coordinate the volunteers. So I'm putting the word out now.
If you're going to Arisia and would like to volunteer two hours of your time to helping make this room possible, Arisia would really appreciate it! You can get volunteer credit for your time (you get a free t-shirt if you log enough hours). It should be very straightforward -- just sit in the quiet room and make sure everything is running smoothly.
Please contact me if you're interested, and help spread the word. (Where else should I post this other than LJ?) Thanks!
arisia,
