joy and sorrow

Nov 05, 2008 08:40

in tears last night, i sat on my couch after a long, emotional day watching a man who has inspired the world, a man of mixed race (yay! a prominent political figure who represents us mixed race kids), a young figure with a beautiful family and beautiful message make history as he stood to become the next president elect.

i am overjoyed beyond words. today, unlike this day 4 years ago, i offer no appologies for the choice of the american people. i am so, so proud and so renewed. THIS IS OUR MOMENT.

sorrow, though, comes with the eminent passing of proposition 8. a disgusting measure that will revoke constitutional rights. for now. because although i am saddened by the vote of the people, it is my firm belief that a matter such as this will not end with a vote. people should not be able to vote against constitutional rights, and in the end i firmly believe that the government will step in and make sure those rights are granted so that all are equal. yes, today i have faith in the government, that they will do the right thing for the people.

god bless america.
