A few days ago I posted about how we'd relaxed a little on our quarantine-ing and a few friend commenters said it sounded CRAZY... letting a friend's kid sleepover at our house, going to stores, lunch on friend's porches. So I thought I'd post more about it. Well, and take a week off from it, it was birthday week, we can re-quarantine to make sure ( Read more... )

Massachusetts has been one of the states on a downward trend. Fewer cases, fewer deaths. Our governor, who is Republican and has stunned me with his sensibility, has been very cautious about keeping us safe. We only just started sidewalk dining, and are about to start some inside dining. I know this will make restaurants very happy, but it will be interesting to see if we stay on the downward trend. A lot of people are not wearing masks outside, but it is breezy here almost every day, and maybe that helps. Throwing caution to the wind because we are just tired of it all, seems very foolish, however. I think the problem here is the US is that we have never really had any kind of restrictions. No wars (after the Civil War) on our land, no quarantines, nothing. So we have no experience and rebel at the thought of restrictions. This is why we don't vote. We've never had to fight for that right here in our own country, so we just take it for granted and don't bother. I seriously think our days of privilege are over, and we are in for a very rude awakening. People are dying, and idiots are fighting against wearing a mask because they think it infringes on their rights. Their rights to make other people sick and possibly die. That's the part we don't seem to get. It's not just about us as individuals, it's about keeping others safe as well, even if it is an inconvenience. I can only hope we vote the idiots out and get some people with actual working brains to leas this country. Ones who don't value their own self-interests and profit above everything else. But I am not hopeful at all.
