what to say about fucking weirdo feminists

Dec 17, 2015 21:49

There's a lot of "I'm a woman and I don't need feminism" kind of posts going around the internet, I see them, mostly on teen sites like tumblr or whisper. One thing that people seem to be concerned with is that feminism has apparently gotten just way too OUT THERE to be useful to the mainstream human population, that's why they don't want to be ( Read more... )

Attitudes towards feminism on whisper can get me really furious really fast. I seriously hate that app I just can't stop.
That 'weirdo' stuff - I don't know, my attitude to it is art/self-expression is what it is and speaks for itself and there's always going to be a place for it on all extremes of the spectrum. I'm cool with it. But bringing that stuff up as a reason why feminism isn't useful to the mainstream seems like kind of a smokescreen to me. These people are completely aware that's not what feminism amounts to or is epitomized by, they just focus on it and draw attention to it so they don't have to come up with an intelligent reason why they 'don't need feminism.'

Yep, smokescreen, or selectively tarring an entire movement with the actions of a few very far-out people.
Which, I SUPPOSE, means I shouldn't judge all republicans by donald trump.

I don't know. Has there been a poll of feminists where 30% of us thought vagina yeast bread was the best thing feminism had to offer?

In that case, fair comparison!

I am most definitely not the person who should be doing that particular polling question.

I don't know. Is that 'weirdo feminism' or just plain insanity. "...a feminist allegedly made bread out of her vagina yeast? It comes up a LOT. So does wearing your menstrual blood, painting your placenta."

There's a lot on Tumblr about feminism being equality for men and women. That makes more sense to me.

I have seen someone doing this on Facebook. The person that I have seen doing this takes no interest in feminism at all so i am not sure it is worth my time to stop and explain.

Problem is: The weirdos are the ones most talkative, loud and the examples most spent on attention by anything that opens up a wider audience. So, not only the majority thinks about a movement that it's full of strange people which live in their bubble, but also the weirdos anytime take it over because extrovertism wins through against people who stay a little more silent.

There are weirdo branches of everything, but that's no reason to throw out sound core principles.

Executive feminists and executive transvestites? I'm comfortable with that!
