It's more in the sense that socially defined sexual goals for men and women are oppositional and create sometimes violent responses.
Consider some social sexual identities:
Men: Unrestrained sexuality, focus on peer validation, deemphasis on relationships and emotional intimacy or need.
Women: Sex for the sake of love as opposed to the male purpose of pleasure, responsible for keeping male sex drive in check, any sexual activity outside of the context of a heterosexual relationship leaves women vulnerable to a tarnished reputation, emphasis on the dangers of sex.
When these two scripts of sexuality collide, bad things happen. Fights happen, anxieties ensue and it's like a mixing lab for date rape. It's kinda sad. The worst part is that people have so many sexual problems in relationships and the only advice they get is: "Try another position!" or "More foreplay!"
Harumph. I can sit here all day and decry our socio-sexual organization but dismantling it seems like such a huge endeavor that I don't even know where to begin.
